Spring has sprung! The winter has finally released us from its chilling grip, and the warmer weather means it is time to get outside! Sunshine, fragrant blooms, and splashes of color are on-trend, and thanks to them, we can find new ways to stay happy and healthy. There are many ways to get out and work off the winter blues, and it is time of year to take a breath of fresh air and maybe even work up a little sweat! There are a lot of ways that you can stay active during the spring, and here we will cover just a few ideas to help get you started. No matter what you are doing, always remember to stay hydrated! It’s one of the easiest and most beneficial things you can do for your body without even leaving the couch.
Gardening
The season of new means fresh flowers, new growth, and an opportunity to build some curb appeal. Gardening is a therapeutic activity for some, but it can also be hard work. You are using your entire body, whether you are potting up a few flowering plants or digging a vegetable garden. If you plan on planting edible plants, not only are you getting a full-body workout, you are ensuring healthy food on your table all season long.
Walking & Running
Probably a no-brainer for most, but walking and running are the two most basic forms of aerobic exercise you can do. While running does provide a better workout, you do not necessarily have to put on your workout gear and run the neighborhood to get good cardio. Even walking the zoo, a trip to the mall, or taking a lap around the park track can help get your heart pumping. Skip the elevator and take the stairs or take the scenic route on foot to your destination if you can. Whatever gets you moving, carve out some time in your day to care for your mind and body with a bit of cardio.
Cycling
One of the easiest outdoor activities that you can do to stay fit is cycling! Riding a bicycle is easier on the joints than running and provides an excellent cardio workout. Even just a quick ride to see the sights can elevate your heart rate and burn calories. When riding a bike, always remember to be aware of your surroundings and follow all safety protocols, like wearing a helmet.
Sports & Activities
For some, running in circles or sitting on a bicycle may seem monotonous. If you find yourself in that boat, finding a sport or other physical activity can get you moving. By engaging in an activity you enjoy, like dancing, yoga, tennis, boxing, etc., you may not even feel like you’re working out at all! Finding an activity that you love can take some time, but the benefits far outweigh the time it takes to find one. Get moving, and experiment! You may find something you love that you never thought twice about.
